Do You Squidoo?

So, National Novel Writing Month started.  In the grand tradition of procrastinating writers, I opted to create a Squidoo Lens.

Sure, I wrote a bit as well — under the suggested daily word count, but it’s better than nothing.  The start of a writing project is always the hardest for me.  I don’t really kick into gear until after about 30 pages.  Until then, it’s a dreadful sensation to sit down and write.

It’s not that I have writer’s block or anything like that.  It’s just that I’m ultimately lazy.  It’s one of those characteristics that work well for computer programmers.  It’s just a horrible one for writers, since I’m the only one that can put my words onto the page.  I can’t write a program that will do it for me.

But somewhere after the first few chapters, the characters and story come alive in my head and I find myself daydreaming about them or, even worse, getting some sort of idea to use in my sleep.  Only once the story is finished does my imagination return to normal and let me get back to just being a lazy programmer.

So, until that grand part of the story “kicks in”, I’m going to procrastinate and keep doing things like making Squidoo lenses.
